Simple white kitchens are incorporating wood, embracing traditional timbers in new and unexpected ways that create a warm, lived-in home environment.

“Kitchen warm naturals are continuing to remain popular, especially in cabinetry and floors,” said Eliza Alkire, Senior Product Designer for Progress Lighting. “The materials add warmth and depth to a kitchen, with tones ranging from light golden wood to rich walnut.”

Bright pops of color or black on cabinets and islands become livable, luxe and inviting, and when paired with textured woods that adds rustic charm.

Layer the Light

Mesh Pendant LightingLighting in a kitchen is always a challenge to get right but the art of layering will be key to designing kitchens successfully. A grouping of staggered pendants introduces another layer of illumination while the scale of the arrangement balances the overall design. Our Mesh pendants offer an interweaving open cage frame and makes a focal point when clustered together over the island.

Bring Warmth to Minimalist Kitchens

Open-plan kitchens remain popular, with their airy layout making it easier for guests to socialize and encouraging smooth transition between living and eating spaces.

To find a balance between streamlined minimalism and luxury for kitchens, ground a bright and light color palette is grounded with textures. Five Tre pendants finished in glossy white complement the minimal style of the sleek cabinetry, while light wood used in the tray ceiling and on the floor brings in warmth.

“There’s a definite trend towards more impactful surface choices, with quartz continuing to be the most purchased material for countertops, followed by quartzite,” said Eliza, “which is the natural stone that courts replicates.”

Instead of sterile white, look for counter materials that add visual interest from strong veining throughout the stone. For backsplashes, tile shapes stay simple overall, but incorporate color, pattern, or texture to add interest while still staying minimal.

Bathrooms Celebrate Wellness

In the bath, a spa-like design is continuing to hold on strong. “Steam showers bring the ultimate wellness retreat into the home, and four out of five remodelers opt to enlarge the shower,” says Eliza. “Freestanding bathtubs are still popular, with 58% of home renovators opting to add one into their home.”

Nature-inspired colors remain a popular trend. From serene greens to earth tones and ocean blues, these organic colors can make a dramatic effect in stone or cabinetry.

Mixing Modern and Traditional Styles

Antique elements like vanity cabinets in rich wood tones, gold and brass finishes or mosaic tile are mixed with modern colors and fixtures for added warmth. A statement lighting fixture such as Blakely combines the best of modern and traditional style with an open linear form complemented by rich satin brass accents.
