New Traditional Design: A Modern Take on Classic Lighting Styles

Progress Lighting collaborates with Amie Freling Brown of Meme Hill Studio on a new traditional style home featuring light fixtures that are a modern take on traditional style.

Location, location, location. It's one of the golden rules of real estate. Interior designer Amie Freling Brown of Meme Hill Studio saw the possibilities in this classic brick Cape Cod in Rochester, NY. It is nestled between two world-renowned golf courses but did not sell when it initially hit the market.

"The home had only one owner, and when it went up for sale, it still had all original fixtures, appliances, finishes, shag carpet and even indoor planters," said Amie. "The project's scope was too much for buyers to tackle, let alone envision what it would look like once renovated."

But Amie had a client who was not intimidated by the amount of work and hired her to help transform it into a treasure. They decided to gut the home down to the studs and added new flooring, mechanicals, bathrooms, a new kitchen, lighting, and energy-efficient appliances.

New Traditional Style Lighting Fixtures

Amie chose new traditional finishes and lighting fixtures for the home's interior design. "As a designer who can appreciate just about every style, I am always drawn back to a traditionally designed space. Clean lines with the attention to detail and classic silhouettes with modern, up-to-date twists keep things fresh and timeless," says Amie. "For this project, I kept the home bright, light and neutral with pops of color using warm woods and light neutral paint and dressed it up with classic Progress lighting fixtures.”

Provide a Warm Welcome with Wall Lanterns and Foyer Lighting

Guests are greeted by the stunning Gibbes Street large wall lanterns at the front door. "The lanterns are even more magnificent in person with its beveled glass and timeless black iron details," points out Amie. In the foyer, the light and bright color scheme offers the first impression of how the home is primed for relaxation. The beautiful craftsmanship of the Winslett foyer light is a fresh take on a classic light choice. Lightly seeded glass shade rest in shiny pedestal light bases to add an unexpected but welcomed dash of modern personality to this clean, traditional design.

Understated Elegance with Chandeliers

The Status chandelier in the dining room makes a stunning centerpiece against the lovely neutral backdrop of the finishes and furnishings. The chandelier's sparkling glass accents and polished chrome finish creates a fun touch against the understated beauty of the room.

The Right Bath & Vanity Fixture Provides a Relaxing Retreat

In the primary bathroom, Amie designed a relaxing haven. "I even threw in a contemporary primary bathroom fixture that blends seamlessly with the new traditional, spa-like classic bathroom retreat." The Colonnade bath and vanity fixture features tubular etched glass shades that pop against a geometric backplate. Its modern style and continuous illumination from an LED source add to the bath's clean, contemporary style.

Lighting Plays a Crucial Part in Interior Design

Lighting is a crucial part of Amie's interior designs. "Lighting is the jewelry of the home. It adds ambiance, function and beauty all rolled into one," says Amie. "I am big on proportions, placements and having a cohesive look throughout, which I why I love Progress Lighting. Progress pays attention to details. And it's the details that make a house a HOME!"
