New 2020 Lighting Trends

The new year is a natural time to think about refreshing the look of your home. When creating our 2020 lighting designs, the Progress Lighting product development team keeps a close eye on emerging and popular interior design trends that complement 2020 lighting trends. "Progress Lighting is renowned for its fashion-forward, trend-oriented lighting designs," said Colleen Visage, Vice President of Product Development. "Our fixtures are ideal for mixing and matching within the same space, creating a curated, cohesive feel to the home while also reinforcing the homeowner's personal design style." Cozy and warm are keywords for the 2020 top interior trends, with luxurious textiles, inviting color palettes, and geometric patterns found across all interior design styles. Here are some of the top trends that the Progress product development team are incorporating into our lighting designs for 2020. Clean, Modern Earth Tones + Blue Accents Look for clean and modern design schemes to continue to reign. Neutral color schemes are a tried-and-true favorite, but in 2020, the palette updates to colors with warm, earthen undertones rather than the cooler, blue-gray shades that are currently popular. Dark, clear blues, such as Classic Blue, Pantone's Color of the Year, and Naval, Sherwin William's Color of the Year, take center stage, adding a vibrant pop of color to softer palettes. Lighting like the Lassiter pendant with its clear glass shades and clean, sharp angles adds visual interest and depth to a room. Geometrics Dominate Geometric shapes are dominating design trends, and lighting in triangle, diamond, hexagonal, or any combination of geometric shapes is one of the easiest ways to add a "wow" factor that instantly transforms any room. Use a geometric pendant like Cumberland, with its artistic X and O pattern that echoes the geometry of the furnishings and makes a clever statement in the room. Updated Lifestyle Trends Some tried-and-true favorite interior trends are evolving and taking on new forms. Formerly traditional homes are refreshing their look with New Traditional flair as they add approachable touches that offer a little fun and youthfulness in the scheme. Classic lighting silhouettes are updated as shown by Maudlin, whose geometric frames and clear seeded glass panes play off the diamond-patterned rug and showcase a modern twist on age-old classics. Mountain decor, typically thought of as more of a rustic, cabin-like style, has matured as it takes on a modern form with clean lines, a neutral color palette, and an uncluttered interior. Now termed "Modern Mountain," these homes have open layouts and tall ceilings, highlighted by sweeping views that command attention. Lighting is oversized, with airy designs that cast light without obstructing views from the plentiful windows, as illustrated in this room. Several sizes of the clear glass Latrobe pendant are grouped on one canopy to extend illumination without detracting from the scenery outside. For fans of the Farmhouse style, the look has taken a delightful turn, with fewer rustic details and more modern charm showcasing modern Farmhouse decor. Subtle color hues go beyond a white and gray palette into a harmonious realm of soft greens and blush pinks, as seen in Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year, First Light, which is a quiet, rosy hue. Lighting fixtures are informed by historical design, offering vintage details like the Medal pendant featuring a stamped star medallion design combined with a clean-lined design for a relaxed and casual vibe. Stay tuned as we launch our 2020 lighting collections in the coming weeks on our website and at your favorite lighting retailers.
