The holidays are arriving soon! It’s the time of year to put your home’s best face forward for family and friends. One way to make a big impact is to change the light fixtures in your kitchen and dining areas. Installing new lighting is a quick way to update your home to give it warmth and style. And it offers another decorating opportunity! Yes, you can decorate your lighting to make your home even more festive. We've got some tips and inspiration from our influencer partners to share to make this holiday season one of the coziest ever.
To get your kitchen in the holiday spirit, blogger and design influencer Tracey Amadio, also known as Porch Daydreamer, suggests looking around and identifying all the areas you can decorate, including light fixtures, countertops, kitchen island, windows and even chairs. "Think outside of the box and add napkin rings around candles on your light fixtures for a new festive look," she says. Tracey did this with the two large Landree pendants over the island, whose silver finish and open design made the ideal framework for this decor trick. Tracey also likes decorating chairs for the holidays, which is done easily with upholstered backs by using pins to hold ribbons, ornaments and wreaths.
Amie Freling Brown, interior designer and owner of Meme Hill Studios recently completed the design of a home in Rochester, NY and dressed it up for the holidays.
“Decorating for the holidays doesn’t need to cost a fortune,” said Amie. “Sometimes you just need to look outside your window. “For this holiday gathering decor, I cut fresh pines from the backyard and wove them through my collection of wooden trees.”
In the dining room, the elegant Canebrake chandelier is a holiday delight when decorated and hung over an equally charming tablescape. “Layer textures and mix and match dinnerware for a collected look. I added fresh cranberries and pines on the counter in a wooden bowl for more color and a festive scent.”
The Canebrake features a traditional silhouette with flowing curved arms for an artisanal flair that are ideal for decorating. “On the chandelier, I wove a garland of pines and berries. Not complicated or expensive, but adds a festive touch and brings your eye to the lighting!”
Amie suggests deciding on a color scheme throughout the house for a cohesive look. She continued her festive theme in the kitchen by dressing up the stove hood and counters with more greenery and touches of natural wood. A pair of Delayne pendants offer a sophisticated style that transcends its simple design over the kitchen island.
A coffee nook showcases the Hinton swing arm wall light, whose metal shade and signature adjustable arm is ready to provide focused task light wherever illumination is called upon.
“I always gravitate to the traditional red and green, but this year I added more wood tones and a pop of gold,” said Amie. “You can even bring in seasonal art. But, most of all, remember to have fun decorating and take time to celebrate!”
