The Cornell Inn, deep in the heart of the Berkshires, has long been known for its storied history. Once a dormitory for Tanglewood musicians, the centuries-old inn has new life after becoming a showhouse for the work of 23 BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) interiors designers who are participating in the Kaleidoscope Project.
The Kaleidoscope Project was established to showcase the true colors present within the design community. Each designer of color brings an individual aesthetic and unique voice to this elegant exhibition of hospitality design.
The Cornell Inn underwent a transformative renovation, featuring materials, furnishings and lighting from Progress Lighting and other sponsors. The designers worked within three central design themes and color schemes: Restful combined with neutral colors; Reflection paired with cool tones; and Rejuvenate featuring warm tones.
Six of the showhouse's rooms featured lighting by Progress. Designer Patti Carpenter, Carpenter + Company selected the Rejuvenate theme and warm color scheme for her bed & bath design. Patti chose the Pearl bath bar for the bathroom, whose elements of simple geometry, golden satin brass finish and reflective polished chrome backplate add a luxe touch. In the bedroom, the Ryne fan s gorgeous woodgrain finish complements the furnishings in the room.

Designer Johanna Howard, Johanna Howard Home, also chose the Ryne fan, but this time finished in Matte White to complement her portrayal of the Reflection design theme in cool tones for the bedroom.
The adjoining bath features the two, Replay vanity lights placed on either side of a simple round mirror. Replay's elegant frame finished in polished nickel is a beautiful addition to the bath's soothing color scheme.
The exterior of the Cornell Inn is ornamented by hanging lanterns from the Botta collection, lending a charming vintage flair to the architecture. They are complemented by eighteen Watch Hill wall lanterns that offer a timeless style across the various facades of the building.
