As the premier designer for Fridley Custom Homes, Jayme Fridley has come a long way from her elementary school teacher roots. Working with her husband, Nolan, the builder/designer duo recently collaborated with Progress on a custom home built especially for their local Tour of Homes near Salem, OR.
Jayme began her career in interior design in 2012, when she and Nolan would meet with clients to plan their dream home. While Jayme doesn't have formal interior design training, she does have expertise in styling homes that reflect her signature look of what she calls a "homey, comfortable feeling" that resonates with their clients. Starting with a neutral palette of classic hard finishes, such as Carrara marble countertops and Shaker cabinetry, she pairs design elements like lighting that range from traditional to modern: whatever best expresses her client's personality and wishes.
For the Tour of Homes, Jayme chose Progress Lighting fixtures throughout the open-concept floor plan to express her design philosophy of using lighting as the wow factor against an otherwise classic design of a house. To this end, Jayme chose mixed metal lighting fixtures featuring black and satin brass finishes as the perfect foil against the timeless design of the home's interiors. Geometric lighting from a pair of large Blakely pendants offers a bold, modern look in the kitchen over the island. The mixed metal theme continues in the dining area, where the rectangular Blakely chandelier hangs over the elegantly rustic wooden table.
In the living area, Jayme picked the Gresham Chandelier, whose wagon-wheel silhouette adds Farmhouse style for interest and a feeling of being current without being too trendy. In the master suite, the look gets softer, the Gulliver Chandelier gives a sculptural edge over the bed while the Tinsley chandelier gently echoes the sculptural shape over the tub.
"Every nook and cranny of this home was planned intentionally, not only to showcase our work as a custom builder but to create a homey, peaceful feeling that loops back to the heart of the home, which is the kitchen," said Jayme.
Outside, Santee wall lantern fixtures with their oversized frame and wider beveled glass are meant to convey a solid, estate-like feel to the home. The Edisto ceiling fan hung in the patio area offers a foreshadowing of the comfortable vibe found in the rest of the house.
