If you're looking for lighting design inspiration, we think one of the best ways is to see how lighting fixtures are used in real-life homes. That's why we collaborated recently with lifestyle blogger Merrick White on lighting selections for her Texas home.
Merrick is an artist who turned her love of art, fashion, and design into a successful business. Having used and loved Progress Lighting in their former home, Merrick and her husband Philip naturally turned to Progress again for the perfect fixtures.
While Merrick was considering lighting choices, Philip took matters into his own hands and ordered some fixtures. Within days, a trio of Penn pendants arrived on their doorstep, unbeknownst to Merrick. "He chose well," she laughed.
In a small hallway leading to the master bedroom, Merrick chose a pair of Orrizo wall sconces to punctuate the gallery of gold-framed artwork hanging on the corridor walls. "The way the sconces mix metal and glass is so unique and fun," she said.
Sandbar sconces from the Jeffrey Alan Marks Point Dumeā¢ Collection are installed up the back stairway as a finishing touch. While the back staircase is often overlooked when decorating a home, Merrick fell in love with the space as the homebuilding progressed. "My granny's house had what we called a 'secret stairway' in the back of the house," Merrick explained. "It was narrow, dark, and had creaky floorboards. It was so special and fun to play there as a kid."

Although Merrick's light, elegant back stairway is a far cry from her grandmother's staircase, she still wanted it to be special and fun. She transformed the blank wall into a gallery where the Sandbar wall sconce became a part of the art itself. The opulent Brushed Brass finish delivers a pop of brightness against the monotone palette of the black-and-white photographs on the wall and the dark stair finish of the staircase treads, handrails, and newel posts.
Merrick hosts a blog and Instagram channel filled with sewing tutorials, lifestyle and styling advice. What's more, she recently launched her own clothing line of casual comfortable dresses. Throughout her career as an influencer, Merrick is careful to work only with brands that she feels is authentic. About Progress, Merrick says: "It's most important that the brand is authentic to my life, to my family and me. Progress Lighting shares this. They are a good and natural fit."
