Modern Farmhouse design takes the best of the rustic, charming warmth of farmhouse design and gives it a contemporary twist. And almost no one does it better than design firm Possibilities for Design as shown in their recent video for builder Schumacher Home's Charleston Earnhardt model home.
This home embodies the Farmhouse fundamentals of simplicity and common-sense functionality combined with design elements that go well beyond basics to bring a modern but still comfortable sensibility to the decor.
Featuring Turnbury
In the great room, the design starts with irregularly textured gray-brown flooring that creates a base for the modern Farmhouse look. Box beams run along the entire ceiling from the great room to the kitchen, with oversized Turnbury chandeliers establishing a perfect focal point for the room. Wood-like tile on the wall, rustic floating shelves mounted asymmetrically, and simple furniture and accessories in wood tones and brushed metals complete the cozy, comfortable feel of the room.
Featuring Cinq
The kitchen is an entertainer's paradise, with white Shaker cabinets that create a framework around a huge, contemporary style waterfall island that is perfect for mixing and mingling. A pair of Cinq pendants with a handcrafted oil-rubbed bronze frame tops off the island design.
Featuring Astra
The study's design was planned to be an exercise in contrasts. The collector's bookcase wall is transitional in design against the partner's desk contemporary waterfall edge paired with two modern chairs. The Astra chandelier with its mid-century modern inspiration and its vintage electric Edison bulb pulls the design together.
Featuring Fontayne
In the master bedroom, the first job for the Possibilities for Design team was to create architectural interest in a room that is that had very little detailing. They added concentric trim detail on the ceiling and centered the Fontayne chandelier. The bath features white Shaker cabinets, white shiplap walls accentuated with dark-rimmed round mirrors and topped off with the Glaze lightbar. The Carrara-look porcelain floor tile adds a modern appeal to the Farmhouse detailing of the room.
Featuring Glaze
The comfortable vibe of the outdoor area blends beautifully with the interior's Farmhouse appeal. The patio features tongue-and-groove paneling for a charming, vintage style that harmonizes well with the Montague ceiling fan's toasted oak fan blades and light kit enclosed with a wire cage frame.
"Throughout this home, design and lighting comes to the rescue to draw people into a relaxing and memorable space," says Doris Pearlman, president and founder Possibilities of Design. We couldn't agree more!
