As our lives become busier and more digitally connected, we yearn for moments of tranquility and a connection to nature. It's no wonder that the trend of outdoor living spaces highlighted by beautiful pendants and chandeliers has become so popular. Combining the rustic charm of al fresco dining with the sophistication of elegant lighting fixtures, this trend has transformed ordinary outdoor spaces into enchanting havens for food, friends, and family.

There is something magical about dining under the stars, and adding outdoor-rated pendants and chandeliers takes that enchantment to a whole new level. Just like indoors, it is essential to get the lighting size and hanging height right for your outdoor space. Here are some sizing and hanging guidelines to get you started.

Pendants Over a Bar or Outdoor Grilling Area

A row of statement-making outdoor pendants hung over a bar or the countertop of a grilling/cooking area is a delightful addition to your outdoor entertaining space. To find the correct size, first, measure the surface length. The size of the pendant lights should be in proportion to the island's dimensions. As a rough estimate, the diameter or width of each pendant should be around 1/2 to 2/3 of the island's width.

For instance, if your island is 48 inches wide, each pendant's diameter should be approximately 16 to 24 inches. Then, start the row 12" - 15" in from either end. Space the lights evenly within that span, around 24"- 30" apart from one another (depending on style & quantity). When you install the pendants, keep 30" - 36" of space between the countertop and the bottom of the fixtures.

Chandelier Sizes for Outdoor Dining Tables

There's nothing better than sitting down with friends and family for a leisurely meal outside. Like indoors, the table under the fixture should serve as a guide for selecting the right outdoor chandelier. To calculate the correct width, start with the width of your table and subtract 12". For example, if your table is 42" wide, your chandelier should not be more than 30" wide. Install it so the bottom of the fixture hangs between 30" - 36" above the table.

Diversity in Outdoor Lighting Trends

Traditionally, outdoor dining was restricted to daylight hours or relied on simple outdoor lighting solutions like fairy lights or lanterns. However, the introduction of damp-rated pendants and chandeliers has elevated the ambiance of outdoor spaces, enabling us to enjoy meals and gatherings long after the sun has set.

One of the reasons for the increasing popularity of outdoor pendants and chandeliers is the myriad of designs available, catering to diverse tastes and outdoor themes. From contemporary minimalism to rustic charm and bohemian chic, there's a lighting fixture to match every outdoor aesthetic. Moreover, the materials used in these fixtures are often weather-resistant, ensuring they can withstand the elements while retaining their stunning appeal. These exquisite lighting fixtures cast a warm and inviting glow, creating an intimate atmosphere that encourages people to linger and savor the moment.
