Jeffrey Alan Marks, one of today's most influential American designers, brought his artful style to the Progress Lighting Design Series™ for our newest lighting collection, Point Dume™. Already internationally recognized for his playful and comfortably designed interior spaces, Point Dume™ captures Jeffrey's spirited style through pieces designed expressly to light homes in a way that is genuine, personal and engaging.
We recently spoke to Jeffrey for a peek at the inspiration behind some of his Point Dume™ favorites and for his thoughts about placing these pieces in a home.
WANDERMERE
Wandermere Eight-Light Chandelier shown with OnShore Wall Sconce
"Wandermere," says Jeffrey, "is 'the star' of the Point Dume™ Collection." The surfboards of Malibu inspired the curved, articulated shades, lacquered in white for a "shiny, shimmering look" on the inside and offset by gold on the back, creating a radiant light. Jeffrey feels Wandermere works well in many settings, as it dresses up a space. He plans to use the chandelier in a foyer in an Aspen family home. Wandermere will lend a touch of glamour to this foyer which has white lacquered walls and a mountain view.
SURFRIDER
Surfrider Pendant Shown
Inspired by an "English traditional look" Surfrider has tiers of metal curves reminiscent of "louvered shutters found in an English country home." Jeffrey interpreted this inspiration into rows of lapping, wave-like metal curves to create a modern-minded pendant that is versatile enough to be used in many rooms, depending upon the finish selected. In his own home, Jeffrey installed the Surfrider pendant over the bath vanity and the Surfrider wall sconce on the bathroom wall. He feels that "Surfrider can go anywhere, in modern or traditional homes."
ONSHORE
OnShore Pendant Shown
"I love it- it's so versatile," says Jeffrey about the Onshore collection. "You can build a space around it - try it in a dressing room, in a bathroom or a guest room."
The Onshore wall sconce with its brushed brass bracketed swing arms reminds Jeffrey of a fixture found in the library of an English home. A gleaming louvered shade balances the design and lends Onshore a mid-century modern appeal.
YERBA
Yerba Pendant Shown
"Beach Gothic" is how Jeffrey terms Yerba. The pierced metalwork blends a shimmering metallic finish with elements of old-world baroque, while also being "light, playful, and pretty. It's a departure from the rest of the collection."
Jeffrey envisions Yerba as ideal for the type of homes he sees on the west coast with a "Spanish Colonial vibe" whose red-roof tiles, thick stucco walls and intricate ornamentation offer the perfect setting for the beauty and old-world charm of Yerba's dappled light.
ROCKDANCE
Rockdance Pendant shown with Latigo Bay Wall Sconce
"It's all about the glass and the leather," says Jeffrey about the Rockdance collection. "We spent a lot of time getting the details right." A range of fixtures - large and small pendants and two semi-flush convertible pieces - are designed in seeded glass, trimmed with bespoke, topstitched leather trim, forming a signature, Jeffrey Alan Marks look to the collection that is "loose and casual. Says Jeffrey, "It's a hip California look, but preppy too, in the way the glass, inspired by sea glass found on the beach, is joined by traditional leather details."
As the inaugural designer of Progress' Design Series brand, Jeffrey's design goals are in sync with the Design Series philosophy - to offer sophisticated styling at an accessible price. For more inspiration, browse the
