Make your foyer into a holiday greeting to welcome family and friends this season with our festive décor ideas. From statement lighting that makes a great first impression to decorating tips that catch the eye, it all begins when guests first arrive inside your home.

Tip 1: Simplify Your Décor

Since the foyer is often the main entrance to the home, it can get a lot of traffic. Function comes first. Use simple but impactful decorations in the areas where mail, keys and backpacks are placed so they still work as a drop zone while adding a festive look.

Tip 2: Keep Visual Continuity

The décor in the foyer sets the tone for the rest of the home. The goal is to have visual flow, so select a holiday color palette that reflects what’s happening stylistically throughout the rest of the house.

Using greenery is an easy way to keep the décor simple and maintain that visual flow. Interior designer Amie Freling Brown says, "Sometimes you just need to look outside your window. I cut fresh pines from the backyard for this holiday gathering décor. It's not complicated or expensive but adds a festive touch."

She decorated the foyer table with her collection of wooden trees and a large vase of greenery. The home's kitchen and dining room mirror this delightfully organic design theme.

Tip 3: Make a Statement with Lighting

A wonderful way to make a visual impact in the foyer is with new lighting fixtures. Whether a chandelier, pendant, semi-flush mount or convertible light, Progress offers gorgeous styles that fit in beautifully with holiday décor while making a beautiful entrance way statement throughout the year.

One of our favorite chandeliers is the Elara Foyer Chandelier. Offered in festive brushed nickel, aged brass and matte black, it has a classically modern look and airy open design to enhance holiday décor while providing beautiful even illumination.

Debut is a versatile luminaire offered as a semi-flush mount convertible light that is ideal for foyers whether your ceiling is tall or not. What is that? Semi-flush convertible fixtures come with a chain and stem pieces to be used as a close-to-ceiling light or a longer pendant. Debut has a nostalgic air perfect for complementing vintage holiday décor but is also equally at home in modern settings. For taller foyers, check out the Debut chandelier.

No matter which type of light you select, remember to hang it high! Keep clearance from the floor to the bottom of the fixture to allow for people walking beneath. If your ceiling is higher than 11 feet, divide the vertical space into thirds, positioning the chandelier two-thirds of the distance from the floor.
