When relaxation is the only item on your to-do list, an inviting front porch is a must. From a door that welcomes guests to a sitting area that is a comfortable retreat, we've got some styling ideas to make your porch a place you won't want to leave.
And when it comes to talking porches, who better than to ask for design tips than Porch Daydreamer Tracey Amadia? A self-described "Makeover Maven", Tracey regularly shares a wealth of inspiration on her blog, Instagram and other social channels. We've tapped her knowledge and love of porch-sitting to provide the following tips to make this sitting season one of the best ever.
Start at the front door, the focal point of the home and the first place the eye generally goes. It's a natural spot to give guests and passers-by the best insight into your home's design style.
Tracey suggests updating outdoor lighting to trade up the look of the front entry.
"One of my favorite curb appeal updates was replacing the sconces on either side of my front door."
"It added so much coastal charm." She chose a pair of Union Square wall lanterns that has details reminiscent of an old-fashioned gas lantern to cast the perfect welcoming glow.
Next, add a fresh coat of paint to refresh a tired front entry instantly. Bolder colors are trending: you may not want to use a bold color for the whole house, but trying a brighter door color can accentuate the front porch with just the kick it needs to liven up the home's entire exterior.
Tracey also recommends changing out the door handle and add a bottom kick plate to freshen the door's look and increase visual appeal. Depending on the type of hardware you select, this simple swap can bring a whole lot of personality, charm or sophistication that announces your design style to the world.
To complete the doorway's look, fill planters with flowers and trailing vines not only for color, but to soften the edges of a doorway. "For a more inviting feel, apply a simple welcome decal or place a fun doormat," says Tracey. "My mat says "Yay! It's you."
If your entry has enough room for furniture, then wicker seating and a swing are musts for the quintessential front porch. Center the sitting area with a pretty rug, add a mix of patterned and textured throw pillows, and place some interesting accessories. Finally, sit down, put your feet up, and relax!
