  1. To install substation arresters, follow the directions, recommended work practices and be safe.
  2. Inspect the packaging and product, looking for signs of damage.
  3. Verify kV rating on nameplate, carton/crate label and shipping documents all agree.  If they do not, stop and contact Hubbell Power Systems, Inc. prior to installation.
  4. Locate and read all installation instructions included with the packaging. If there are any questions, now is the time to ask.
  5. Prior to starting installation verify all hardware is included.
  6. Testing is not required prior to installation.
  7. Tighten all fasteners to the values in the installation instructions.
  8. For porcelain arresters point the directional vents away from other equipment.
  9. The stacking order of multi-unit arresters is very important. Verify the proper stacking order by reviewing the outline drawing with the packaging and the nameplate on the bottom unit.
  10. The use of any included grading ring is critical to life of the arrester. Verify the need for a ring by reviewing the outline drawing with the packaging.
  11. Hubbell Power Systems supplies stacking bolts but since mounting surfaces vary in thickness mounting bolts are not included. Grade 5 bolts should be used for mounting.
