Turning off fluorescent lamps for a greener future

From August 2023, the production of commonly used fluorescent lamps will be discontinued within Europe. However, there are many advantages to be gained by switching to LED. Read our latest blog to learn how you can transition.

Phasing out fluorescent lighting

Less waste and a cleaner, more efficient future are ahead. As the transition towards utilising more sustainable lighting products continues, the use of “traditional” fluorescent lighting is being phased out. Compact fluorescent lamps have already been prohibited from manufacture in Europe. From August 2023, no new fluorescent tubes: T8 and T5 will be manufactured.

Adapting to regulations

The new rules under the European Union's Ecodesign Directive mark a significant shift to promote the use of energy efficient and longer lasting LED luminaires. In line with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive, it is expected the phase-out of mercury-containing lamps will save approximately €18.2 billion, as well as 190 TWh of electricity and 1.8 metric tones of toxic mercury. *

We will support our customers while they phase out fluorescent luminaires, so they can move towards using longer lasting LEDs, which can provide considerable savings in maintenance costs, less waste an overall reduction in their carbon footprint.
