A famous history
For many years, the Protecta name has been synonymous with quality and reliability within the linear lighting market. The enclosure design is trusted globally and installed in thousands of locations across a wide range of industries, including Food & Beverage, Renewables and Onshore/Offshore Petrochemical. Through several developments and innovations over the years, the brand has continued to grow, and the latest exciting Protecta IV model represents next generation illumination.

Pioneering energy efficiency and lifetime
The Protecta IV is at the forefront of the typical energy efficiency expected from a Zone 1 LED luminaire. When luminaires run hot, they are liable to decay and prematurely break down. Advanced thermal management is central to the Protecta IV’s updated design. A thickened gear plate absorbs heat away from the main heat generating components, thus extending the lifetime of the luminaire. At an average ambient of 25°C, the LEDs will provide an expected useful life to 70% of the initial lumens (L70) of ≥200,000 hours, while the LED driver life is expected to achieve 120,000 hours. That’s around 13.5yrs of continuous usage before any key component replacement is required.
Industry leading illumination capabilities
Utilising the latest LED technology, the Protecta IV proudly carries on the prestigious name associated with our resilient GRP enclosure, delivering updated efficiencies and enhanced photometric performance.
The available lumen output packages of the Protecta IV offer equivalent performance to traditional linear luminaires, while boasting an impressive (non-emergency) minimum efficacy of 139 lm/W. This is almost double that of the previous generation Protecta LED, representing a significant energy saving for users and providing reduced lifetime costs on site.
In addition to the standard wide beam optic for general area illumination, the Protecta IV can also be provided with innovative asymmetric optics to efficiently and effectively control the light distribution, whilst eliminating stray light. Developed with walkways or narrow corridors in mind, the emitted light is directed where it is most needed and allows users to reduce the number of linears typically needed to meet the required illumination levels.
Through the appropriate selection of Protecta IV optics for the application, considerable savings can be achieved. Reducing the quantity of linear fixtures minimises the installation materials (e.g. fixings, cable glands, junction boxes) required and directly lowers the associated installation costs. In turn, fewer linears means less Ex equipment, decreasing the time and resources spent on inspection and maintenance throughout the product’s life.
In-built automatic commissioning and emergency self-test functionality, the overall reduction in linear quantities, longer component lifetimes and improved luminaire efficiency lead to a significantly reduced total cost of ownership for site.
