Working predominately within design engineering, Tel’s project objective is to improve the design of the Stainless Steel enclosure boxes by improving the user access whilst wiring and inspection. He has also undertaken a secondary objective to investigate how best to reduce the assembly time of the gasket fitting in the production line.
The start of the internship involved a lot of research, time which Tel used to get to know the products and operations: “My first 3 weeks involved a lot of information gathering from colleagues from different departments such as marketing, technical and engineering. Colleagues in production, who are building the products every day, gave me an excellent idea of what needs improving and exactly how it can be done.”
Tel focused on investigating design elements using CAD software to aid model designs. Then the best designs were taken forward to prototype stage. A lot of evaluation was conducted ahead of the final design being chosen. This design featured a new technical elements which met the project criteria to increase accessibility for our customers and could be easily, and cost effectively, manufactured.
Studying 2nd year Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manchester, in his spare time outside of university, Tel is a keen footballer - playing every week alongside practicing Muay Thai for fitness.
